Kafana Kafana
About This Spot
Stepping into Kafana Kafana feels like crossing into a warm embrace of Belgrade’s cherished dining traditions. Nestled on Đušina street, this restaurant hums with a quiet, inviting rhythm—a space where moments stretch comfortably, and the outside world seems to slow down. It’s the kind of place where the murmur of friendly conversation blends with the subtle clinking of glasses, crafting an atmosphere that’s at once familiar and quietly special.
The pace here is unhurried, encouraging guests to savor more than just their meal. Tables around you often carry hearty boards of shared bites—smoky ajvar, crisp grilled peppers, and savory cuts of meat that speak to a regional heritage proud and unpretentious. The aromas of dishes like slow-cooked meats under a sač or the tang of pickled cabbage evoke stories of home kitchens and timeless family gatherings.
There’s an evident care in how food and drink come together. Whether it’s a robust serving of ćevapčići or a glass of deep local vino, everything feels like a gesture toward comfort and communion. The portion sizes generously invite sharing, creating a natural rhythm of passing plates and exchanging tastes, enhancing the sense of togetherness inherent to the kafana experience.
What lingers most, however, isn’t just the food but the people—the attentive waitstaff whose warmth and knowledge gently guide newcomers through the menu’s rich layers, and the familiar faces that seem to return not just for the cuisine, but for the communal spirit that thrives here. In the glow of soft lighting, live music sometimes fills the space, weaving through the conversations and adding another layer to the evening’s texture.
For anyone seeking a spot where tradition meets heartfelt hospitality, Kafana Kafana offers a place to pause, share, and discover the quieter joys of Serbian culinary culture in a setting that feels both timeless and alive.

We ate cevapcici and a meat that I don’t remember the name exactly. Prices are reasonable, meals were delicious, atmosphere was great. Waitresses are so polite and helpful, explained everything to us. Highly recommend this place. Portions were too big for us to complete our meal so if we go there for the next time. We’ll ask for 1 main and 1 side.

Best place to eat authentic traditional Serbian cuisine. The service is great and the prices are best for the quality! Nice silent place with great atmosphere! Recommend!

Wow, it’s great taste comparing to Korean dishes. Same style with K-food, spicy and oily of Goulash, typical Sausage. This resto is one pick of Serbian resto.

This place is like a hidden gem. If you want domestic food, I tried here one of the best restaurants sarma, or rolled liver or many other. But the night out... I am not a regular, but the atmosphere is like the whole restaurant came togetherand everybody knows each other. I combination with great musicians like Denis, this is just everything I need at the night out. Bravissimo

We had delicious Serbian local food at kafana kafana. My boyfriend is Serbian and speaks the language but I'm not. The waiter was so sweet and translated everything for me. He recommended a traditional beef and soup and Pljeskavica. He also mentioned that the portions are really huge so that we could share everything and not had to order too much. However it was more that enough for both of us. We were so full. The meat was very tender and the sides were cooked well. We enjoyed it there and will come again at our next visit in Belgrade.

The best hamburger and fries I ever had in my life, done to perfection. Roasted peppers salad and ice cold beer from the tap. The portions are so generous that I couldn’t eat the whole thing. Stuff at restaurant are very nice and friendly. This is the real hidden gem in downtown Belgrade jungle. The place is nice and clean. Prices are very reasonable. I would highly recommend to everyone.
